Here's how we make green smoothie at our house ... to yours!
Green smoothies are not only lovely to drink, but so good for you. If you're tired of eating your greens, you can simply drink 'em. There are days when I just don't want a leafy green salad but know my body could use one. That's when I tap into the green smoothie. Green smoothies are basically perfect portable food! If you want to make a green smoothie, but don't know how ... here's our very own green smoothie recipe that is great tasting and kid-friendly too ...
(serve 4 - 6)
5 - 6 cups baby spinach, washed
1/2 pineapple, peeled, cored and diced
3 - 4 cups frozen banana chunks
1 Tbsp each of chia seed, flaxseed, hempseed
2 - 3 Medjool dates, pitted and chopped roughly
1 Tbsp raw honey
*freshly made almond milk (or water if you're desperate)
Using a high-powered blender, blend all of the ingredients above, adding enough milk to get everything blending (I pour the milk right to the level of the fruit and veggies). You'll want to blend until everything is creamy and smooth. This will take a minute or two.
Serve and enjoy immediately - or pour into popsicle molds and make green smoothie popsicles!
Make yourself a green smoothie today. You'll be surprised at how energizing and balancing this drink is. Get more greens into your kids by getting them into green smoothies too. Start off by getting them to taste yours, then eventually get them their own cup! In our house, the boys call green smoothie "Hulk Smoothie" and the girls call it "Princess and the Frog Smoothie". Or buy their favourite character cups from the dollar store or silly straws. Do whatever you can to get them excited about drinking their greens - it really works and it's worth it!
