So, I juiced the cherries and the plums, added 1 apple and 1 pear and the result was syrupy sweet goodness (only it was bright pink and totally yummy). I poured the cherry plum syrup over some crushed ice and voila ... instant fruit slushies were born. And they were refreshing and delicious. Exactly what you need on a hot, hot summer day!
Here's the recipe ...
1 big bowl of dark red cherries
4 red plums (very ripe)
1 pear (also very ripe)
1 honey crisp apple ... and ICE!
Using a masticating juicer (rather than a centrifugal juicer), juice the fruit. (Really, any juicer will do. But, if you have a masticating juicer, this tool will extract more juice from these softer fruits and produce a lovely thick syrupy liquid.)
If you have crushed ice, simply pour the fruit syrup over the ice and drink away! If you don't have crushed ice you can make it if you have a high-powered blender (like a VitaMix or a Blendtec). Simply put about 4 cups of ice cubes in your blender and, using the plunger tool/stick, plunge away until the ice is crushed into perfect crushed ice. Divide the ice across a few cups. Pour the syrup over top and you're done.
And there you have it, a home-made slushi without all the sugar, additives and dyes.
Give your kids what they love and feel no guilt. My kids drank 2 slushies each and were chalk full of vitamins ... on this very hot summer day!
Enjoy your hot summer days with this lovely treat!
