Drink or eat a salad everyday. It's that simple.
But now, almost 18 years later, I no longer crave sugar in that way. I got over my addiction to starch and complex carbohydrates and now I crave greens and healthy fats more than ever. I am much more satisfied after a bowl of salad or a tall glass of green juice, then I ever was after a mono meal of fruit.
Don't get me wrong fruit has it's place in the raw vegan diet. In fact, I don't go a day without eating fruit. However, I place much more emphasis on the greens these days than ever before and feel younger and stronger than when I was in my twenties.
I don't think I ever understood when I first became raw and vegan the love and the connection to greens that other raw vegans were experiencing and talking so much about. I simply loved fruit and that's all I understood.
Now, all these years later, my body tells me when it craves greens and the darker the green the more satisfied I feel at the end of a meal. I finally get what everyone was talking about. Greens are healing to the body and my body know it too.
I have come to learn that greens are the building blocks of a strong and healthy youthful body. This is no surprise given that chlorophyll is abundant in all leafy greens (as well as most vegetables), i.e.: spinach, romaine lettuce, parsley, Swiss chard, kale, collard greens, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and asparagus.
If you're wondering what chlorophyll is, it gives plants their green pigment and allows them to convert the sun’s energy into food via photosynthesis. Interestingly, chlorophyll has a similar chemical structure to the heme part of the hemoglobin molecule, which carries the iron in our blood.

So whatever form you choose to get greens into your body, don't waste another day and just start doing it. Start your day with a tall glass of green juice, eat a large salad every day for lunch, steam some greens at dinner time and have a night cap of green juice.
