Don't underestimate the humble carrot ...
In my research on the healing powers of green juice, I came across many testimonials of people who claim to have been healed by carrot juice! It's important that we don't get too hung up over green juice and realize that there are so many other benefits to be reaped by the juices of other vegetables; for instance, the humble carrot.
Why is carrot juice so healing? It really comes down to the high amounts of Vitamin A (beta-carotene) in carrots. Vitamin A is an antioxidant that attaches to free radicals in the body. The damaging effect of free radicals has been associated with cancer. Studies have shown that our own body's natural ability to fight free radicals is actually enhanced where the individual supplements with high amounts of beta-carotene.
Not just any supplementing will do, however. It’s been shown that pills are less effective than getting the Vitamin from the food itself. As well, this is enhanced to an even greater degree when the Vitamin is absorbed through juice fasting. Because the fibre is removed in juicing, there is no need for digestion. That is, the Vitamins in juice are in a pre-digested liquid form. So, instead of the body being bogged down with having to break down and digest the food, only nutrient-rich, liquefied food is introduced into the digestive system which is quickly transported to your body's cells. In the end, each cell is flooded with Vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytochemicals, some of which many say we have yet to discover.
So, while green juice is highly beneficial to the body, carrot juice can be as beneficial or more!
Some other benefits of carrot juice are:
reduce the risks of many different types of cancer
helps maintain vision
cleanses and restores the liver
very good blood sugar regulator
supports good prenatal health
supports good bones and teeth, liver and nails, skin and hair
Warning. Drinking large amounts of carrot juice may cause your skin to turn a slight yellowish or orange colour. This has actually never happened to me, although I never drink only carrot juice. I like to switch it up quite a bit - from green juices, to carrot and orange juice too. In any event, this side effect is absolutely harmless. In fact, the beta-carotene in your skin is a natural defence against skin cancer. Also, research has shown that this can protect the skin from the damaging effects of the sun. As an added bonus, after a few weeks on a carrot juice fast, your skin will feel super soft too.
Cheers, and make a carrot juice today!
