DAY 1 - here's what I drank today ... | |
This was what I drank today:
8:00 a.m. - chard, celery, broccoli, lemon, apple, cucumber juice
10:00 a.m. - carrot, apple, lemon juice
11:30 p.m. - homemade almond milk
1:00 p.m. - carrot, apple, lemon juice
2:00 p.m. - raspberry leaf tea
2:30 p.m. - dandelion, celery, lemon, apple, juice
5:30 p.m. - homemade almond milk
7:30 p.m. - dandelion, celery, lemon, apple, tomato, pepper juice
11:00 p.m. - raspberry leaf tea
In total I drank 7, 20 ounce drinks. For the most part I was not really hungry. I only felt true hunger (or cravings for food) around the dinner hour. But once those cravings passed, I had no hunger whatsoever. The juices kept me feeling quite full, although the psychological aspect of simply not eating can get to you if you let it. To cope, I just kept reminding myself that 3 days is very quick and I'll be so grateful when I'm done.
In terms of any withdrawal symptoms or detox, I felt pretty energized all day. At some points I could feel a slight headache coming on, but that quickly dissipated. At the start of my day my energy was very high. As the day progressed, however, I did notice my energy levels dropping somewhat. When this happened I made sure to drink and/or rest. One thing's for certain, if you embark on a juice fasting program, you'll want to rest as much as possible if that's what your body is signalling. I worked out this morning and lifted heavy weights and felt fine throughout the entire experience. I may or may not want to continue with the weights for the next two days; depending on how I feel. I will definitely listen to myself and not push myself.
As I mention in my videos above, the point of this blog is to provide support to anyone who is wanting to embark on a juice program or simply add raw freshly pressed juices to their diet. So, apart from sharing my own experiences, here are the benefits of going on a juice fast:
balanced pH and blood sugar levels
a cleansed and regulated colon
weight loss (fat, not water)
diminished toxin load
strengthened immune system
increased mental clarity
heavy metals cleansing
increased liver function capacity
loss of cravings for sugar and other stimulants
cellular cleansing and rebuilding
radiant, glowing complexion
diminished pains and allergies (some disappear completely)
blood, tissue and organ cleansing
restored liver function capacity
increased energy levels
emotional cleansing and release
and an enhanced sense of joy and lightness is usually experienced
In case you're doubtful, freshly pressed organic fruit and vegetable juices provide your body with everything it needs. Raw plant juice provides natural sugars, salts, enzymes, electrolytes, vitamins, minerals, trace elements and probiotics, all in their appropriate proportions, for the revitalization and rebuilding your body will be doing during a fast. Because juices are pre-digested meals in liquid form they are quickly absorbed into the system. This leaves the body's energy available for the deep cleansing and rebuilding activities of a fast.
Another great benefit to juice fasting is that the colon is washed and thoroughly cleansed by all of the fluids. If you experience sluggish bowels during a fast, one option is to take 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed in a cup of almond milk prior to bed or upon waking or both. This really gets the bowels moving.
So, join me on this 3 day juice fast as I keep you informed of the ins and outs of juice fasting and try and answer any questions you may have.
Peace.
